Installing, Configuring, and Starting Servers (Windows NT) 5-3
You are now ready to install the new PATROL Database Administration
server to any directory where the client is not currently installed.
Preparing to Install the Server
Follow these recommendations to prepare a Windows NT server for
installation of the Database Administration server:
If you plan to install the PATROL DB-Admin KM files, you must
install the PATROL Application Management software (PATROL
Agent and PATROL Console) first. This is required because a
location for PATROL_HOME must be established prior to installing
a Database Administration server. If the PATROL Application
Management software is not installed first, the Database
Administration server will use a default location of PATROL3-2 for
your PATROL DB-Admin KM files.
BMC Software recommends that you install only one PATROL
Database Administration server on a given Windows NT system. If
you plan to have more than one version of the server on your system,
you need to make special provisions. See “Coexisting with Earlier
Versions” on page 5-4 for details.
If you intend to install both the PATROL Database Administration
server and a client on a single Windows NT system, install them into
different directories.
Ensure that the database you plan to use with the PATROL Database
Administration products is already installed and the version of the
database is supported. See Table 1-5, “Supported Database Servers,”
on page 1-12 for a list of supported databases.
If you are reinstalling the server or changing information about
which databases you want to support, make sure to stop the server
and scheduler before beginning the installing. If services are still
running when you start the installation, you will be prompted to shut
them down either through the program or manually.
Close down any applications prior to installing.
