Setting up the Server Environment (Unix Host) 3-19
When adding entries to the inftab file, use the following guidelines:
• For best results, provide a value for every variable that is shown in
Table 3-4. This action removes potential ambiguities concerning
which Informix version and server you are using.
• Use a colon (:) to separate the values.
Note
You can optionally include blank space before or after a value.
• Use a new-line character to terminate each entry.
• If a pound sign (#) is the first character on a line, that line is
considered to be a comment. The line can include blanks (but no
other characters) before the pound sign.
Note
Empty lines are skipped.
Maintaining the inftab File
You must maintain the inftab file. Some functionality (such as the
onspaces utility and other Informix utilities) may run successfully only on
the version of Informix to which the INFORMIXDIR environment was
set when the Database Administration server was started. To use the
Informix utilities on multiple Informix database versions, you must either
create and maintain the
inftab file or perform the following:
Step 1 Stop the Database Administration server.
Step 2 Set INFORMIXDIR to the installation directory of the version of
Informix on which you want to run utilities.
Step 3 Restart the Database Administration server.
