Database Administration Installation Guide
Starting, Stopping, and Querying the Servers with
patroldb
After installing the server files and setting up your environment, you can
start, stop, and query a PATROL
®
Database Administration server
process by using
patroldb. The Database Administration server processes
inherit the same user and group IDs that belong to the user who invokes
patroldb. Typically, user bmc starts the Database Administration server.
Table 4-1 provides database-specific startup considerations.
Table 4-1 Considerations When Running patroldb (Unix Host)
Database Consideration
Informix You must run patroldb as user informix to access some Informix
database objects. If you also run the product on an additional
relational database management system (RDBMS) such as
Oracle, use BMC_PORT to run another instance of the server
as user bmc.
Oracle Do not start the patroldb server processes as user oracle,
because the results can be unpredictable.
DB2 DB2 Universal Database: Do not start the patroldb server
processes as a DB2 instance ID, because the results can be
unpredictable. Defined DB2 instance ID’s can be determined
using the DB2 command db2ilist.
DB2 Universal Database for AIX: You must run patroldb under
the same primary group ID as the DB2/AIX instance to which
you will connect. The server processes inherit the user and
group IDs of the user who invokes patroldb.
DB2 EEE: The service provider must be running on the catalog
node of the database (where the CREATE DATABASE
command was issued).
