Database Administration Installation Guide
Coexisting with Earlier Server Versions
The version 3.0.01 server is designed to coexist with earlier versions of
the PATROL Database Administration server. If you plan to use both
versions on the same system, you must perform the following action for
each version of the server:
install each server into a different directory
use a different jobs directory for each server
use a unique port number for each server
By default, the 3.0.01 version server is installed into a different directory
than the 2.2.0x version.
Starting a 2.2.0x version of the Database Administration server on a
system where a 3.0.01 version resides is no different than starting the
server normally. When you start either version, ensure that the correct
$BMC_HOME and $BMC_LOCAL paths are being used for the version
of the server that you are running. Also, make sure to start the 3.0.01
version server with a user name that is different from the one used to start
the 2.2.0x version server.
Installing the Server
Now that you have completed the preinstalling steps, you are ready to
install the server. Follow these steps to install the PATROL Database
Administration server on a Unix host.
Note
If you plan to install the PATROL DB-Admin KM files, BMC Software
recommends that you install the PATROL Application Management
software first. For details on how to install the PATROL DB-Admin KM
files, see Chapter 6, “Setting up the Server for Event Monitoring by the
Knowledge Module.”
