Configuring and Starting Clients 8-3
If you plan to connect to different combinations of Database
Administration products, hosts, and databases, you should create a
separate connection profile for each possible combination. The
connection profile name must be unique even though multiple
connections may use the same host.
Note
Client configuration is not necessarily a one-time activity. At some point
in the future, you may need to modify your hosts or connection profiles.
Use the Connection Manager any time that you need to add or change a
host or connection profile.
See the Help for complete instructions on defining hosts and creating
connection profiles.
Configuring PATROL SQL-Explorer
The first time that you use the PATROL SQL-Explorer
product on a
particular database instance, you must configure that instance. You must
have DBA authority and responsibilities to make the configuration
settings. See the PATROL® Database Administration User Guide for
information on how to configure your client for PATROL SQL-Explorer.
PATROL SQL-Explorer can have its own connection profiles, or may be
used as a tool within PATROL DB-Change Manager.
Host Considerations When Running Coexisting Clients
If you have set up your client (and server) to coexist with earlier versions
of the software, the executables must exist in different directories and
have unique port numbers. Because host definitions are shared, you must
set up new hosts for the 3.0 client to work properly. You should assign
these new hosts unique names, as well as the same port number that you
used to identify the 3.0 server. For example, for a host named eagle using
