Setting up the Server for Event Monitoring by the Knowledge Module 6-17
Preventing Agent Time-outs
If your Windows NT system is running the PATROL Agent as well as
other PATROL products (such as the PATROL Console, the PATROL
DB-Admin server, and the PATROL Database Administration client),
patroljd may stop sending events to the agent. The PATROL DB-Admin
server is designed to give priority to job execution over sending events to
the agent. If
patroljd stops sending events to the agent, your job log file
reports the following error message:
Agent timed out
For best performance, you should run the Agent on a separate system. If
that is not possible, take the following steps to prevent agent timeouts:
Step 1 Increase computational resources.
If possible, use a system with greater CPU speed.
Step 2 Increase agent timeout.
Using the
pasetup program, increase the agent timeout entry in
pasetup.ini. Increasing the agent timeout value may slow down job
execution.
Step 3 Reduce the number of hosts monitored by an agent by increasing the
number of agents monitoring your enterprise. This will distribute the
monitoring load to more agents, reducing the amount of monitoring each
agent performs.
