Starting Servers (Unix Host) 4-13
The following procedure for manually starting the server is based on the
following assumptions:
The Database Administration server files are installed.
You set the BMC_HOME environment variable to the installation
directory.
The directory that BMC_LOCAL will reference exists.
The database-specific environment variables are set.
Step 1 Start the database server. (If the database server is not running, the
Database Administration products cannot access the database.)
Step 2 As user bmc, log on to the host where the Database Administration server
will run.
Note
For the majority of installations, the administrator should start the server
as user
bmc. See “Considerations When Running patroldb (Unix Host)”
on page 4-2 for a list of restrictions.
Step 3 Set the PATH and environment variables.
See “Setting PATROL DB-Admin Environment Variables” on page 3-7
for information on how to set these variables.
Step 4 Start the Database Administration server by using the following
command:
$BMC_HOME/patroldb start
Step 5 Log off of the bmc account.
