the Database Administration server which is software that runs on
the host machine (Unix, Windows NT Server, or OS/390) and
performs services for the client

The Database Administration server includes the following
subcomponents (also called servers). These subcomponents allow users
to modify database objects that were created by commercially available
database servers such as the Oracle or Sybase relational database
management systems (RDBMSs). See Table 1-3, “Supported Server
Platforms,” on page 1-10 for a list of supported server platforms.
•adatabase access server, which connects to a database server and
allows the user to manipulate and modify database objects
•ascheduler server, which schedules processes for execution
Figure 1-1 illustrates the products’ client/server architecture.
