Setting up the Environment
Before starting the PATROL
®
Database Administration server, you must:
• set database-specific environment variables
• set BMC_HOME to indicate the location of the executables
• determine the location of BMC_LOCAL (which contains the job
directories)
The following sections discuss these variables and other environment
variables that can be set based on your particular environment and the
products that you will be using.
Setting Database-specific Environment Variables
Before you start the server, you must set the PATH variable and
database-specific environment variables. The following procedures
outline the variables that you should set for each database.
Setting up the Oracle Environment
Note
At most sites, users can type . oraenv to set up the Oracle environment
variables that are listed in Steps 1 - 3.
Step 1 Set ORACLE_HOME to the home directory where your Oracle software
is installed.

export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/oracle/7.1.3
