Database Administration Installation Guide
If the ping returns the message Bad IP address

timed out, you can continue with the installation. However, you must
resolve this network problem before you can use the product.
Preserving an Earlier Version of a Product
To preserve an earlier version of a product, you can
• install the new version of the products to a directory other than the
one where the products currently reside
• install the new version of the products to the same directory as the
directory that the earlier version uses
If you choose to install the upgrade to the same directory as the earlier
version, the Setup program gives you the option of backing up the
existing directory, using the
.bak extension. For example, if the earlier
version is installed in the default directory
c:\bmc, it will be saved to
c:\bmc.bak. If a directory with the .bak extension already exists, the
earlier version is backed up to a directory with a
.00x extension.
Restoring an Earlier Version of a Product
If you later want to restore the earlier version that was backed up,
complete these steps:
Step 1 Rename the directory that contains the later version.
Change the directory name to a unique, temporary name. For example,
for version 2.2, you could rename the directory to
c:\bmc22.
Step 2 Rename the .bak directory to its previous name.
For example, rename
c:\bmc.bak to c:\bmc.
Step 3 Restart the client.
