Installing the New
Retainer Plates, Cups and
Cylinders
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 7
.19, FIGURE 7.20, and FIGURE 7.21 on
page 51.
1. Find the new cylinders and cups in the
repair kit (FIGURE 7.19).
2. Place the new retainer plate into the
new cup (Detail “A” of FIGURE 7.20).

NOTE: Ensure that the lip of the cup is facing up.
3. Push the new retainer plate with cup into the new cylinder (Detail “B”).
4. Place the new cylinder/retainer/cup assembly over the piston rod (Detail “A” of
FIGURE 7.21).
NOTE: Ensure that the cylinder sits on the bracket.
5. When properly installed, the cylinders extend slightly above the bracket surfaces
(Detail “B” of FIGURE 7.21).
6. Secure the new cylinder/retainer/cup assembly to the compressor piston with the new
retainer plate screws (Detail “C” of FIGURE 7.21).
7. Using a torque wrench, torque retaining plate screws to 36 inch-lbs (Detail “C”).
