10.INSTRUMENTCALIBRATION
10.1CALIBRATIONSUMMARY
The9060Zoxygentransmitterhasaselfcalibrationanddiagnosticsystembuiltintothehardwareand
software. Once the reference voltages have been set into memory the self calibration system
maintainsthecalibrationofthetransmitter.Anautomaticupdateofthezeroandspanisdoneevery
minute.
The4‐20mAoutputscanbeautomaticallycalibratedwiththepressoftheAUTOCALkeyormanually
finetuned.
Oneentryforeachprobeoffsetisrequiredtooptimisethecalibrationoftheoxygenmeasurement
although an automatic system calibration check can be programmed into the transmitter using
certifiedgasses.
10.1.1CALIBRATIONOFTHEINPUTS
Thecalibrationoftheanalogueinputsisbasedonthevoltageofatemperaturecompensatedvoltage
referenceintegratedcircuit.Thereare4voltagesgeneratedfromthestandardreferencevoltage.
Theywillvarybyabout1%fromonetransmittertoanotherbutcanbetrimmedbysettingtheactual
voltagesintoCALIBRATIONmenufunctions#1to4.
Thecalibrationsh
ouldbedone30minutesormoreaftertheinstrumenthasbeenon,approximately
onceeveryyear.Thecalibrationconstantsareretainedinbatterybackedmemoryunlessa‘COLD
START’isperformed.Seechapter10.2,ColdStart.
Connecta31/2digitmultimeternegativeleadtothetestpointmarked‘COM’inthecentreofthe
1732‐1PCB(labeled‘V‐REFS’).Measurethefourvoltagesonthetestpointmarked1to4withthe
positiveleadofthemultimeter.EnterthemeasuredvaluesintheCALIBRATIONmenufunctions#1to

10.1.2CALIBRATIONOFTHEOUTPUTS
Theeasiestwaytocalibratetheoutputsistoselect‘AutoCalibrated’inCALIBRATIONmenufunctions
#5and8.Ifthisisselectedtheoutputswillbedirectedawayfromtheoutputterminalsandbackinto
ananalogue input of the transmitter. The outputs are then testedand a zero and span calibration
factor is recorded. If a more accurate calibration is required select ‘Manually Calibrated’ in
CALIBRATIONmenufunctions#5and8.Thiswillinhibittheautomaticcalibrationsystemoverwriting
thecalibrationfactors.However,thezeroandspanfactorswillneedtobemanuallyset.Tosetthe
calibrationfactorsusethefollowingstepsforeachoutput:
1. SelectCALIBRATIONmenufunction#5(8)andsettheoptionto‘Calibrate4mA’.
2. UsetheFUNCTIONupkeytogotofunction#6(9).
3. Setthisto4.00mAandpresstheENTERkey.
4. Measuretheactualoutputcurrentwithadigitalmultimet
er.
5. Use theOPTION keys to set the option to the value read on the digital multimeter and press
ENTER.
6. Theoutputshouldgoto4.00mA.Thevalueinfunction#6(9)canbefinetunedifnecessary.
7. Gobacktofunction#5(8)andselect‘Calibrate20mA’.
8. Gouptofunction#7(10)andsettheoptionvalueto20.00mA.
9. Measuretheactualoutputcurrentwithadigitalmultimeter.
10. Use the OPTION keys to set theoption to the value read on the digital multimeter and press
ENTER.
