Appendix B: Glossary
This appendix describes most of the terms used in OneTouch
®
DMS and the User Manual.
adapter. A connection cable for OneTouch
®
Meters that use a strip port as the data port. The
adapter connects the OneTouch
™
Interface Cable to the meter.
Autosearch. The option whereby OneTouch
®
DMS will automatically search all PC COM ports
until it finds the one that is connected to the meter. You may select Autosearch in the General
Tab of the Preferences screen.
Average Readings Report. A Report that displays glucose averages by Meal Slot, Exercise
period, and day of the week.
bolus dose. The additional units of insulin your body needs around meal times. Insulin
dosing is usually called bolus when administered via an insulin pump. Bolus dosing data may
be added to the database in the Manual Entry screens.
button. These are shaded boxes that appear on the bottom of screens. You can click on these
boxes to accept or cancel data entries.
calendar pop-up box. A pop-up display screen that lets you change the calendar date.
The screen is activated by clicking on the down arrow in any Date field.
carbs. One of the main nutrient groups, carbohydrates, also known as sugars and starches,
are the preferred energy source for the body. Diabetes occurs when carbohydrates are eaten
but not used properly by the body. Managing carbohydrate intake is key to maintaining good
glucose control. OneTouch
®
DMS provides a way to track carbohydrates along with other
diabetes health related information.
cardiovascular complication. A complication that involves the heart or the major blood
vessels.
cerebrovascular complication. A complication that involves the blood vessels in and around
the brain.
check strip. A special test strip used to verify that your meter and test strips are working
properly. Check strips are used with the OneTouch
®
II , OneTouch
®
BASIC
®
and OneTouch
®
Profile
®
Meters. Look on the back of your meter to see the acceptable range of your check
strip results.
clear meter. Permanently erases all readings from the meter memory.
