Pistons
Piston Removal
Split the crankcase (see Crankcase Splitting).
Remove the connecting rod nuts [A] and big end caps [B].
NOTE
Mark and record the locations of the connecting rods
and their big end caps so that they can be reassembled
in their original positions.
Remove:
Camshaft Chain (see Camshaft Chain Removal in the
engine Top End chapter)
Crankshaft [A]
Remove the connecting rods with pistons to the cylinder
head side [B].
Remove the piston pin snap rings [A].
Using the piston pin puller assembly [A], remove the pis-
ton pins.
Special Tool - Piston Pin Puller Assembly: 57001-910
Remove the pistons.
Carefully spread the ring opening with y our thumbs and
then push up on the opposite side of the ring [A] to remove
it.
Remove the 3-piece oil ring with your thumbs in the same
manner.
