Replacing the Locking Mechanism in the Back Cane
CAUTION
The locking mechanism in the back canes is spring loaded. Slowly remove the back
canes from the wheelchair to prevent the springs from being lost.
NOTE:Forthisprocedure,refertoFIGURE 7.1.
1. Foldthebackcanesdownandoutoftheway.RefertoFolding/UnfoldingtheBack
Canesonpage 56.
2. Twisttheactuatorcounterclockwisetoremovefromthelockingmechanism.
3. Slowlyletthelockingmechanismandspringslideoutofthebackcane.
NOTE:Inspectthespringforwearanddamage.Replaceifnecessary.
4. Slidethenewlockingmechanismandspringintothebackcane.
5. Makesuretheangledendofthelockingmechanismispointinguptowardsthe
lockingpinontheadjustmentplate.
6. UseLoctite™242,onthreadsonly,andsecurelytightentheactuatorintothelocking
mechanism.
7. Unfoldthebackcanes.RefertoFolding/UnfoldingtheBackCanesonpage 56.
