NOTE:Everysixmonthstakeyourwheelchairtoaqualifiedtechnicianforathoroughinspection
andservicing.Regularcleaningwillreveallooseorwornpartsandenhancethesmoothoperation
ofyourwheelchair.Tooperateproperlyandsafely,yourwheelchairmustbecaredforjustlikeany
othervehicle.Routinemaintenancewillextendthelifeandefficiencyofyourwheelchair.
Safety Inspection Checklists
Initialadjustmentsshouldbemadetosuityourpersonalbodystructureneedsand
preference.Thereafterfollowthesemaintenanceprocedures:

CAUTION
As with any vehicle, the wheels and tires should be checked periodically for cracks
and wear, and should be replaced.
❑ Ensurewheelchairrollsstraight(noexcessivedragorpulltooneside).
❑ Inspectclothingguardsforbentorprotrudingmetal.
❑ Ensurethatallfastenersonclothingguardsaresecure.
❑ Ensurearmsaresecurebuteasytoreleaseandadjustmentleversengageproperly.
❑ Ensureadjustableheightarmsoperateandlocksecurely.
❑ Ensurearmrestupholsteryhasnorips.
❑ Ensurearmrestpadsitsflushagainstarmtube.
❑ Ensurehandgripsarenotloose.
❑ Ensureseat,backand/orarmupholsteryhavenorips.
❑ Ensuretriggerreleaselevercablesandhandlesreturnwhenreleased.
❑ Inspecthandrimsforsignsofroughedgesorpeelingfinish.
❑ Ensure
thereisnoexcessivesidemovementorbindingwhendrivewheelsarelifted
andspun.
❑ Ensuresealedbearingsandaxlenuttensionarecorrect.
❑ Adjustbearingsystemifwheelwobblesnoticeablyorbindstoastop.
❑ Ensurewheel/forkassemblyhaspropertensionwhencasterisspun.Castershould
cometo
agradualstop.
❑ Loosen/tightencasterlocknutifwheelwobblesnoticeablyorbindstoastop.
❑ Ensureallcaster/wheel/fork/headtubefastenersaresecure.
