Using the Alignment Gauge
NOTE:Forthisprocedure,refertoFIGURE 9.19.
NOTE:Thealignmentgaugeisusedtodeterminetoein/toeout.RefertoDetermining/Adjusting
ToeIn/ToeOutonpage 44formoreinformation.
1. Inflateallpneumatictirestorecommendedtirepressures(listedonthesidewallofthe
tire).
2. Placethehandcycleandalignmentgaugeonaflatsurface.
3. Positionthealignmentgaugeneartherearofthereartires.
4. Loosentheheightadjustmentscrew.
5. Raise/lowerthealignmentbarsothebarisapproximately12inchesfromthe
ground/floor.
6. Tightentheheightadjustmentscrew.
7. Loosenthealignmentscrew.
8. Positionthealignmentgaugebetweentherearofthereartires.
9. Adjustthealignmentbarsothealignmentgaugefitssnuglybetweentherearofthe
reartires.
10. Tightenthealignmentscrewtosecurethealignmentbarpositio n.
11. Positionthealignmentgaugeatthefrontofthereartires.
12. Examinethegauge.Performoneofthefollowing:
A. AlignmentGaugeFitsSnuglyBetweentheFrontoftheRearTires‐Wheelsare
aligned.Notoein/toeoutadjustmentisneeded.
B. ThereisExtraSpaceBetweentheAlignmentGaugeandRearTires‐Thetireshave
atoeoutcondition.RefertoAdjustingToeIn/ToeOutonpage 45.
C. AlignmentGaugeDoesNotFitBetweenRearTires‐Thetireshaveatoein
condition.RefertoAdjustingToeIn/ToeOut
onpage 45.
