SECTION 5—OPERATION

After any adjustments, repair or service and before use, make sure all attaching
hardware is tightened securely - otherwise injury or damage may result.
Riding the Handcycle
ƽ WARNING
Before operating the handcycle, review the General Guidelines on page 12 in of this
manual.
DO NOT operate the handcycle if the hand crank obstructs your view. If the hand
crank obstructs your view, adjust the height before using the handcycle -
otherwise injury or damage may occur.
NOTE:Forthisprocedure,refertoFIGURE 5.1onpage27.
1. Engagetheparkingbrake,ifequipped.RefertoUsingParkingBrakeonpage 30.
2. Transferintothehandcycle.RefertoTransferringInto/OutoftheHandcycleon
page 16.
3. Ensurethatthehandcrankisnotobstructingyourview.RefertoAdjustingHand
Crankonpage 34.
4. Ensurethefootrestisadjustedproperly.Ifnecessary,adjustthefootrest.Referto
Replacing/AdjustingtheFootrestandLegGuardonpage 32.
NOTE:Footrestshouldbeadjustedsothatwhenseatedwithfeetinthefootrests,thereisaslight
bendattheknee.
5. Ensuretheseatisadjustedproperly.Ifnecessary,adjusttheseat.RefertoAdjusting
SeatFore/Aft‐AllModelsExceptXLTGoldandTopEndForceonpage 36or
AdjustingSeatHeight‐AllModelsExceptXLTGoldandTopEndForceonpage 38.
NOTE:Seatshouldbeadjustedsothatwhenseatedwithfeetinthefootrests,thereisaslightbend
atthekneeandaslightbendattheelbowwhenthehandcrankisfurthestaway.
6. Ifinstalled,releasetheparkingbrake.RefertoUsingParkingBrake
onpage 30.

At least one hand MUST be on the hand crank assembly at all times. Otherwise,
injury or damage may occur.
7. Placeatleastonehandontothehandcrankpedals.
NOTE:Thehandcrankassemblyisusedforpropellingandsteeringofthehandcycle.
