SECTION 3—SAFETY INSPECTION
NOTE:Everysixmonths,takeyourwheelchairtoaqualifiedtechnicianforathoroughinspection
andservicing.Regularcleaningwillreveallooseorwornpartsandenhancethesmoothoperation
ofyourwheelchair.Tooperateproperlyandsafely,yourwheelchairmustbecaredforjustlikeany
othervehicle.Routinemaintenancewillextendthelifeandefficiencyofyourwheelchair.Clean
upholsterywithmildsoapandwaterorspraydisinfectantusingasponge.DONOTusebleachor
washinawashingmachine.
Safety Inspection Checklist
Initialadjustmentsshouldbemadetosuityourpersonalbodystructureandpreference.
Thereafterfollowthesemaintenanceprocedures:
Inspect Initially
❑ Ensurewheelchairrollsstraight(noexcessivedrag/pulltooneside).
❑ EnsurewheellocksDONOTinterferewithtireswhenrolling.
❑ Ensurepivotpointsarefreeofwearandlooseness.
❑ Ensurewheellocksareeasytoengage.
❑ Inspectseatandbackupholsteryforripsorsagging.
❑ Inspectupholsteryfasteningflapstoensuretheysecurelylatch.
❑ Inspectseatpositioningstrapforanysignsofwear.Ensurebucklelatches.Verify
hardwarethatattachesstraptoframeissecureandundamaged.Replaceifnecessary.
❑ Ensurehandgrips(ifequipped)arenotloose.
❑ Ensurequickreleaseaxlesandcamberinsertsareclean.
❑ Ensureadjustable
axlepositioncamberbarissecurelytightened.
❑ Ensurequick/quadreleaseaxleslockproperly.
❑ Ensurenoexcessivesidemovementorbindingwhenliftedandspun.
❑ Inspecthandrims forsignsofroughedgesorpeeling.
❑ Inspectspokesforbentorbrokenspokes.
❑ Ensurethatcastersarefreeofdebris.
❑ Ensureallspokes
areuniformlytight.
❑ Cleanupholsteryandarmrests.
CAUTION
As with any vehicle, the wheels and tires should be checked periodically for cracks
and wear, and should be replaced if damaged.
