INSPECTION/TROUBLESHOOTING
NOTE:Everysix(6)monthsorasnecessarytakeyourwheelchairtoaqualifiedtechnicianfora
thoroughinspectionandservicing.Regularcleaningwillreveallooseorwornpartsandenhance
thesmoothoperationofyourwheelchair.Tooperateproperlyandsafely,yourwheelchairmustbe
caredforjustlikeanyothervehicle.Routinemaintenancewillextendthelifeandefficiencyofyour
wheelchair.
Safety Inspection Checklists
Initialadjustmentsshouldbemadetosuityourpersonalbodystructureneedsand
preference.Thereafterfollowthesemaintenanceprocedures:
Inspect/Adjust Initially
❑ Ensurewheelchairrollsstraight(noexcessivedragorpulltooneside).
❑ Ensurearmsaresecurebuteasytoreleaseandadjustmentleversengageproperly.
❑ Ensureadjustableheightarmsoperateandlocksecurely.
❑ Ensurearmpivotpointsarefreeofwearandlooseness.
❑ Inspectseatandbackupholsteryforripsorsagging.
❑ Ensurearmrestpadssitflushagainstarmtubes.
❑ Ensureseatreleaselatchisfunctional.Replaceifnecessary.
❑ Ensurewheelmountingboltsaresecureondrivewheels.
❑ Ensurenoexcessivesidemovementorbindingwhendrivewheelsareliftedandspun
whendisengaged(freewheeling).
❑ Ensurewheel/forkassemblyhaspropertension
whencasterisspun.Castershould
cometoagradualstop.
ࣼ CAUTION
As with any vehicle, wheels and tires should be checked periodically for cracks and
wear and should be replaced as necessary.
❑ Loosen/tightencasterlocknutifwheelwobblesnoticeablyorbindstoastop.
❑ Ensureallcaster/wheel/fork/headtubefastenersaresecure.
❑ Inspecttiresforflatspotsandwear.
❑ Cleanupholsteryandarmrests.
