5.2Aiming
Aneffectiveaimingtechniqueistoadjusttheheaduntilthehighestreadingisobservedonthe
internaldisplay.Whenthehighestreadingisreached,holdtheunitinplaceandsecurethemounting
base.Makesurethatthesensorisin1colormodewhenusingthisaimingtechnique!
Another
aiming can be done by means of a battery powered aiming light. Simply loosen the
compressionsleeveholdingthefiberopticcable,loosenthescrewattheheaterblock,andpullthe
cableoutoftheheaterblockapproximately7mm(0 .25in),see
Figure13,p.17.Raisethefiberoptic
cableenoughtosliptheaiminglightontotheend.Alignthelightbeamonthetarget.
5.3FiberOpticCable
Fiberopticcablesandopticalheadsareabletowithstandhotambienttemperaturesupto200°C
(390°F),optionalevenupto315°C(599°F).Theycanalsooperateinareasofhighelectromagnetic
fields,whichwouldrenderconventionalinstrumentsuseless.Thesmallopticalheadcanbemounted
incrampedlocations.Thefiber
opticcablehasasmallbendradius(36mm/1.5inminimum)andcan
be“snaked”aroundandthroughmachinery,walls,andotherobstacles.Ifthecableneedstobe
changed,itisfieldreplaceable.Acalibrationprogramforreplacedfibercablesisincludedwithyour
sensor. Longer fiber
optic cables allow the electronics enclosure to be well away from hostile
environments.

fiberopticcableandheadareonecomponent.Thecablecanbedisconnectedfromtheelectronicsbox
foraimingorthreadingthroughconduitduringinstallation.Thecableiskeyedandcanonlybe
insertedonewayintotheelectronicsenclosure.

armorsheathcoveringthefiberopticbundle.
