Determining Toe In/Toe Out

1. Inflateallpneumatictirestorecommendedtirepressures(listedonthesidewallofthe
tire).
2. Measurethedistancebetweenthecenterlinesattherearandfrontoftherearwheels
atapproximately12inchesfromtheground/floor(FIGURE 5.8).
NOTE:Foroptimumaccuracy,performSTEP2withthewheelchairoccupied.
3. Determinedifferencebetweentwomeasurements.If differencebetweenthetwo
measurementsisgreaterthan1/2‐inch(0+1/4‐inchformaximumrollability),oneof
twoconditionsexists:
•IfthebackcenterlinemeasurementoftherearwheelsisSMALLERthanthefront
centerlinemeasurementoftherearwheels,aTOE‐OUTconditionexists
(FIGURE 5.8).
•IfthebackcenterlinemeasurementoftherearwheelsisLARGERthanthefront
centerlinemeasurementoftherearwheels,aTOE‐INconditionexists
(FIGURE 5.8).
