NOTE:Everysix(6)monthsorasnecessarytakeyourwheelchairtoaqualifiedtechnicianfora
thoroughinspectionandservicing.Regularcleaningwillreveallooseorwornpartsandenhance
thesmoothoperationofyourwheelchair.Tooperateproperlyandsafely,yourwheelchairmustbe
caredforjustlikeanyothervehicle.Routinemaintenancewillextendthelifeandefficiencyofyour
wheelchair.
Safety Inspection Checklists
Initialadjustmentsshouldbemadetosuityourpersonalbodystructureneedsand
preference.Thereafterfollowthesemaintenanceprocedures:
Inspect/Adjust Initially
Ensurewheelchairrollsstraight(noexcessivedragorpulltooneside).
Ensurearmsaresecurebuteasytoreleaseandadjustmentleversengageproperly.
Ensureadjustableheightarmsoperateandlocksecurely.
Ensurearmpivotpointsarefreeofwearandlooseness.
Inspectseatandbackupholsteryforripsorsagging.
Ensurearmrestpadssitflushagainstarmtubes.
Ensureseatreleaselatchisfunctional.Replaceifnecessary.
Ensurewheelmountingboltsaresecureondrivewheels.
Ensurenoexcessivesidemovementorbindingwhendrivewheelsareliftedandspun
whendisengaged(freewheeling).
Ensurewheel/forkassemblyhaspropertension
whencasterisspun.Castershould
cometoagradualstop.
CAUTION
As with any vehicle, wheels and tires should be checked periodically for cracks and
wear and should be replaced as necessary.
Loosen/tightencasterlocknutifwheelwobblesnoticeablyorbindstoastop.
Ensureallcaster/wheel/fork/headtubefastenersaresecure.
Inspecttiresforflatspotsandwear.
Cleanupholsteryandarmrests.
