Replacing/Adjusting Casters
CAUTION
Changing the size/type of and/or repositioning the front casters can affect the per-
formance of the wheelchair. Contact Invacare at the telephone numbers on the
back of this manual before performing this procedure.
NOTE:Forthisprocedure,refertoFIGURE 5.18.
NOTE:Nonsuspensioncasterscannotbeadjustedastheymountinonepositiononly.
1. Performoneofthefollowing:
•NonSuspensionFork‐Removetheboltandlocknutthatsecurethefrontcasterto
thefork.
•SuspensionFork‐Performthefollowingsteps:
i. Usingtwoallenwrenches,turninoppositedirectionsandremoveone
mountingscrewfromthefork.
ii. Removethemountingscrew/threadedsleeveassemblythatsecuresthefront
casterandtwospacerstothefork.
2. Removefrontcasterandaxlespacersfromfork.
3. Performoneofthefollowing:
•NonSuspensionFork‐Installthenewcaster,bolt,locknutandaxlespacersonto
theforkandsecurelytighten.
•SuspensionFork‐Performthefollowingsteps:
i. Determinethedesiredmountingholeforthecasterinstallation.
ii. Lineupthefrontcasterandtwospacerswiththemountingholeinthefork
determinedinSTEPBi.
iii. Reinstallthemountingscrew/threadedsleeveassemblythroughthefork,front
casterandtwospacers.RefertoFIGURE 5.18forhardwareorientation.
iv. Reinstallthemountingscrewintothethreadedsleeveandtightensecurely.
ƽ WARNING
Both front casters MUST be positioned to the same corresponding mounting hole,
otherwise injury or damage may occur.
4. RepeatSTEPS13fortheoppositecasterifnecessary.
NOTE:Ifreplacingfrontcasterswithadifferentsizethanwhatwasoriginallyonthewheelchair,
thefrontcasterheightMUSTbeadjustedtokeepthewheelchairframeparalleltothefloor.Refer
toAdjustingFrontCasterHeight
onpage 55.Thesizeoftherearwheelsmayalsoneedadjustment.
