E. CHARGER LOCATION PRECAUTIONS
1. WARNING: Wearcompleteeyeprotectionandclothing
protection, when working with lead-acid batteries.
2. Makesuresomeoneiswithinrangeofyourvoiceorclose
enoughtocometoyouraidwhenyouworkwithorneara
lead-acid battery.
3. Haveplentyoffreshwaterandsoapnearbyforuseifbattery
acidcontactsskin,clothing,oreyes.Ifbatteryacidcontacts
skinorclothing,washimmediatelywithsoapandwater.
4. Avoid touching your eyes while working with a battery. Acid
particles(corrosion)maygetintoyoureyes!Ifacidenters
youreye,immediatelyoodeyewithrunningcoldwaterfor
atleast10minutes.Getmedicalattentionimmediately.
5. Removeallpersonalmetalitemssuchasrings,bracelets,
necklaces, and watches when working with a lead-acid
battery. A lead-acid battery can produce a short-circuit current
highenoughtoweldaring(orthelike)tometal,causinga
severe burn.
6. Takecarenottodropametaltoolorothermetalonto
thebattery.Metalmaycausesparkingorshortcircuitthe
batteryoranotherelectricaldevise.Sparkingmaycausean
explosion.
7. Always operate battery charger in an open well ventilated
area.
8. NEVERsmokeorallowasparkorameinthevicinityofthe
batteryorengine.Batteriesgenerateexplosivegases!

Chargershouldbegroundedtoreducetheriskofelectricshock.
Chargerisequippedwithanelectriccordhavinganequipmentgrounding
conductorandagroundingplug.Theplugmustbepluggedintoanoutlet
that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes
andordinances.Thisbatterychargerisdesignedforuseonanominal120
volt circuit and has a grounded plug that looks like the plug illustrated in
FIGURE1(A).Thisplugshouldbeusedinagroundedoutlet.Theplug
pinsmusttthereceptacle(outlet).
ADAPTER:Atemporaryadapter,asshowninFIGURE1(B)and(C),may
beusedtoconnectthechargerplugtoatwopolereceptacle(outlet),as
showninFIGURE1(B).
NOTE:Thetemporaryadaptershouldbeusedonlyuntilaproperly
groundedoutletcanbeinstalledbyaqualiedelectrician.

Thegreen-coloredrigidearorlugextendingfromtheadaptermustbeconnectedtoaproperlygroundedoutlet.Makecertainitisgrounded.Ifneces-
sary,replaceoriginaloutletcoverplatescrewwithalongerscrewthatwillsecureadapterearorlugtooutletcoverplateandmakegroundconnectionto
grounded outlet.

Never place charger directly above the battery being charged,
gasesfrombatterycoulddamagethecharger.
Never allow battery acid to drip on the charger when reading
specicgravityofllingbattery.
Never operate charger in a closed in area, or restrict ventila-
tion in any way.
Do not set battery on top of the charger.
1. Make sure you have a 12 volt lead-acid battery and select
appropriate battery charger switch.
2. Cleanbatteryterminals.Takecaretokeepcorrosionfrom
comingincontactwithyoureyes.
3. Ifrequired,adddistilledwaterineachcelluntilbatteryacid
reacheslevelsspeciedbybatterymanufacturer.Thishelps
purgeexcessivegasfromcells.Donotoverll.Forabattery
withoutcellcaps,carefullyfollowmanufacturer'srecharging
instructions.
4. Studyallbatterymanufacturer'sspecicprecautions,such
asremovingornotremovingcellcapswhilecharging,and
recommendedratesofcharge.
5. Be sure area around battery is well ventilated while battery is
being charged. Gas can be forcefully blown away by using a
pieceofcardboardorothernon-metallicmaterialasafan.
6. Ifnecessarytoremovebatteryfromvehicletocharge,always
removegroundedterminalfrombatteryrst.Makesureall
accessories in the vehicle are off, so as not to cause an
arc.
7. Amarine(boat)batterymustberemovedandchargedon
shore.Tochargeitonboardrequiresequipmentspecially
designedformarineuse.
