Basic Switch Setup
Figure 6- 2. Basic Switch Setup window
This window is used to enter name, location, and contact information, as well as to determine whether the switch should get
its IP Address settings from the user (Manual), a BOOTP server, or a DHCP server. If you are not using either BOOTP or
DHCP, enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway of the switch. If you enable BOOTP, you do not need to
configure any IP parameters because a BOOTP server automatically assigns IP configuration parameters to the switch. If
you enable DHCP, a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol request will be sent when the switch is powered up. Once you
have selected a setting under Get IP From, click Apply to activate the new settings.
The information is described as follows:
Parameter Description
Get IP From
There are three choices for how the switch receives its IP Address settings: Manual,
BOOTP, and DHCP.
IP Address
The host address for the device on the TCP/IP network.
