Installing/Removing/Adjusting the Steering Dampener -
For Top End XLT Gold and Force Only
NOTE:Forthisprocedure,refertoFIGURE 8.4onpage53.
NOTE:Thesteeringdampenerisdesignedtostabilizethehandcycleduringtransfersandwhile
ridingandisnotintendedtokeepthehandcyclestraightwhenpedalingbuttokeepthehandcycle
fromleaningexcessivelytoonesideoranother.
Installing Steering Dampener
1. Usingalocknut,securetheupperthreadedpostofthesteeringdampenertothecrank
assemblytab.
2. Whileinsertingthelowerthreadedpostintothetab,positionthedampenerclamp
aroundthehandcycleframe.
3. Usingtwosocketscrews,looselysecurethedampenerclamptothehandcycleframe.
4. Usingalocknut,securethe
steeringdampenertothedampenerclamp.
5. Ensuringthefrontwheelanddampenerclampareinlinewiththehandcycleframe,
securelytightenthetwosocketscrewssecuringthedampenerclamptothehandcycle
frame.
6. Testdrivehandcycle,ifhandcyclepullstotheleftorrightadjustthesteering
dampener.RefertoAdjustingSteeringDampeneronpage 52.
Removing Steering Dampener
1. Removethelocknutsecuringthesteeringdampenertothedampenerclamp.
2. Removethetwosocketscrewssecuringthedampenerclamptothehandcycleframe.
3. Removethedampenerclampfromthehandcycleframeandthelowerthreadedpost
ofthesteeringdampener
4. Removethelocknutsecuringtheupperthreadedpostofthesteeringdampenertothe
crankassemblytab.
5. Removethesteeringdampenerfromthecrankassembly.
Adjusting Steering Dampener
1. Loosen,butDONOTremove,thetwosocketscrewssecuringthedampenerclampto
thehandcycleframe.
2. Ensuringthefrontwheelanddampenerclampareinlinewiththehandcycleframe,
securelytightenthetwosocketscrewssecuringthedampenerclamptothehandcycle
frame.
3. Testdrivehandcycle,ifhandcyclepullstotheleftorrightrepeatSTEPS13until
handcycledrivesstraight.
