When I connected a
USB cable between
the printer and my
computer, the “New
Hardware Wizard”
message appeared
once, but the printer
did not install. Now
the “New Hardware
Wizard” will not
appear again.
(Windows PC only)
Installation was not
completed, it was
cancelled, or there was an
error.
1 Disconnect the USB cable from your
computer and then reconnect it.
2 Remove the printer software and then
reinstall it.
• Insert the printer software CD into
the computer.
•Click Remove HP PhotoSmart
software.
• Follow the instructions on your
computer screen to uninstall the
software.
• When the uninstall is completed,
turn the computer OFF and then ON
again.
• Reinstall the printer software.
When I connect a
USB cable between
the printer and my
computer, an
“Unknown device”
message appears.
(Windows PC only)
Static electricity has built
up in the cable between
your computer and printer.
OR
You may have a defective
USB cable.
OR
The software could not
identify the new printer;
the printer-USB connection
may be defective.
1 Disconnect the USB cable from your
printer.
2 Disconnect the power cord from the
printer.
3 Wait approximately 30 seconds.
4 Plug the power cord back into the
printer.
5 Plug the USB cable back into the printer.
6 If “Unknown device” continues to
appear in the “New Hardware Wizard”
dialog box, check the Web for updates
or contact HP Services and Support. See
the Services and Support booklet that
came with your printer for contact
information.
