LIFT KIT MODELS ONLY - DO NOT attempt to recline or incline the wheel-
chair back without occupant. Back will raise ABRUPTLY and cause injury. Keep
clear when reclining or inclining chair back to avoid injury.
ALWAYS engage both wheel locks while reclining or inclining (reverse recline)
the wheelchair.
Make sure the patient is properly positioned in the wheelchair before
reclining or inclining (reverse recline) to maintain maximum stability and
safety. Refer to the
SAFETY/HANDLING OF WHEELCHAIRS in SEC-
TION 1 of this manual.
1. Unfold wheelchair. Refer to SAFETY/HANDLING OF WHEELCHAIRS in SECTION
1 of this manual.
2. Attach spreader bar. Refer to STORING/REPLACING THE SPREADER BAR in this
section of the manual.
3. Adjust the tightness of the headrest/back upholstery. Refer to ADJUSTING HEAD-
REST/BACK UPHOLSTERY in this section of the manual.
4. Make sure wheelchair is occupied and on a level surface before reclining.
5. Engage the wheel locks. Refer to USING/ADJUSTING THE WHEEL LOCKS in this
section of the manual.
6. Inform the occupant of the wheelchair that the wheelchair is about to be reclined.
7. Make sure occupant's hands and body are clear of all pinch points.
8. Stand behind the wheelchair and grasp both push handles firmly.
9. Squeeze release handles.
10. SLOWLY, pull back on the back assembly while squeezing the release handles.
11. When the back reaches the desired angle, SLOWLY let go of the release handles.
12. To return the back to the full upright position, reverse the STEPS 8-11 keeping in
mind proper body mechanics.
