4 Close the battery/memory
card cover.
u Caution
• Do not remove the memory card while the card access lamp
(orange) is lit.
• If the battery/memory card cover is opened while the power is
on, the camera turns off. Do not open the cover while the
camera is in use.
• Use this camera to format (initialize) a memory card that is
unused or has been previously used on other devices. (p.34)
• Use a high-speed memory card when recording movies. If the
write speed cannot keep up with the recording speed, the
writing may stop during recording.

• When using an Eye-Fi card or a Flucard, refer to “Using a
Wireless Memory Card” (p.86).
Turn the camera on and make the initial settings.
1 Turn the main switch to [ON].
The lamp lights up in green.
The first time the camera is
turned on after purchase, the
[Language/W] screen
appears.
t Memo
• The power automatically turns off when you do not perform
any operations within a set period of time. (Default setting:
1min.) You can change the setting in [Auto Power Off]
of the D3 menu. (p.24)
1 Use ABCD to select the desired language
and press E.
The [Initial Setting] screen
appears in the selected
language.
Proceed to Step 6 if F
(Hometown) does not need
to be changed.
2 Press B to move the frame to F and press D.
The [F Hometown] screen appears.
