I changed the battery the light is bright but I only get E.. It flashes the lines and goes to zero but then when stepped on I get an E How can I fix it.

0 After years of proper use, our scale would only give an "e" (error) when tapped. Changing the battery did not help.

I removed the rubber top cover (it peels off), took out the 4 screws holding the scale together, and removed the top half. After leaving it open for about 10 minutes and wiping off the circuit board with a tissue, it worked properly. I SUSPECT that some moisture had condensed inside, making the electronics work incorrectly, and opening it allowed the moisture to evaporate.
