Question About Salter Housewares Scale Model # 5008

I haven't used my Salter food scale in a "long time"! I just brought it in to use, and pushed the "on" button. It comes back with a reading of: Un 5E (except the E is missing the top horizontal line, and the "5" may be an "S"). Is there something wrong with the machine, or does it just need new batteries??? Thank you - SO MUCH, for your help :)
