Braun thermometer display says OFF. I have changed...

Braun thermometer display says OFF. I have changed batteries and then it says degrees F, SET, degrees C. I have pushed the power button but nothing happens. after a while it beeps and then displays OFF again. I cannot find any solution in the manual.
