We had dropped the device and couldn't find the battery cover. It now works intermittently, and the rest of the time it blinks green while a reading is being attempted, then reads "POS."

I found this while looking at the Braun Thermoscan Pro 4000 and thought it might help.

"If the probe is not placed in a stable position while taking a temperature, the device beeps, the green ExacTemp light goes out and POS (Position Error) will display.
